| “This
country, in its remaining part,
is admirable.
Lebanon
has a lasting aroma reminiscent
of the epoch of Jesus. Here, I
am already on biblical land. I
see from my terrace (in
Tyre
) Sarepta, Hermon,
Carmel
, and the mountains of the tribe
of Dan…
Lebanon
, the most amazing thing in the
world, and by rare privilege,
gathers a high degree of
grandeur and charm; they are
gay, flourishing and scented
Alps
. Each of its summits is crowned
by temples… all that I can
tell you, is that air in Lebanon
is the sweetest, most pure and
most vivid in the world, that
this country inspires health,
rest, peace of mind, as well as
a welfare and tempered activity,
that population is overall good
and tender, that security is
greater than in any country of
Europe and that I shall cross
the country alone on foot
without a shadow of apprehension.” Ernest
Renan (1860)

The first-of-a-kind online search engine by
RJLiban, for the Lebanese and the friends of
Lebanon around the world
December 21, 2009
From now on, you can find your relatives
wherever you are around the world: the first
phase of the RJLiban’s online directory of the
world grand family of Lebanon is now ready to be
used after two years of hard work, with a unique
research system on
www.rjliban.com; A Christmas gift for the
Lebanese, the Lebanese descendants, and the
friends of Lebanon that allows them to find each
other by family name, city of origin in Lebanon,
country of residence, and profession.
The directory will be filled as the future
members enroll in it. During enrollment, the
people of Lebanese origin should write the names
of their Lebanese ancestors, great-grandparents,
and great-great-grandparents; these names will
form a basis for the research by family name
associated to the city of origin. As for the
research by profession linked to the country of
residence, it is open to all friends of Lebanon.
One of the important characteristics of this
directory is its multilingual system that allows
it to function in the seven most practiced
languages in the world of Lebanese emigration:
French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian,
German, and Arabic.
During the launching period going on till
January 20, 2010, the registration and
navigation will be given for free in this
directory. After this date, registration will be
required to receive the Friends of Lebanon
international card, valid for 5 years, for 30
dollars (for regular members) or 20 dollars (for
the under 15-year-old junior members). This
personal card, issued in all languages according
to the nationality, will be delivered to your
place of residence and many other offers will be
granted in the future through this card. Enjoy
your navigation!

The Anniversaries of the Lebanese Emigration in
the Heart of Mexico
November 16, 2009
The second anniversary celebration of our
biweekly page “The Lebanese throughout the
World” (in French: Les Libanais dans le Monde)
was held this month in Mexico, the country that
embraces the most important communities of
Lebanese emigrants in the world. Our journey in
the heart of this charming country, from the
capital Mexico City (24 million inhabitants)
located at 2000 meters of altitude, to the beach
of Ixtapa, located near Zihuantanejo in the West
of Acapulco city, has opened a wide breach of
young and multiple energy for the sake of
Lebanon.
Meanwhile, in our country, the foreign
interference is still increasing the divisions,
which have been pushing our youth to escape the
country seeking for safer havens in order to
build their future. The intensity of this major
problem was thoroughly studied in Mexico, during
the 50th anniversary - from October
22 till October 26 - of the World Lebanese
Cultural Union, an international organization
that our association (member of the WLCU French
branch) has just officially joined. Many
important groups of Venezuelan, Argentinean,
American (etc.) youth of Lebanese origin were
represented, and they expressed their wish to
develop more solid relations with their
motherland.
As for the 250 young Lebanese-Mexicans, they
addressed a very touching speech in Spanish,
during their annual convention held in Ixtapa -
from October 29 till November 2nd, in which they
expressed the unfailing love of the Lebanese
descendants towards their fabulous Land of the
Cedars.
A new era has opened its doors for Lebanon
today, away from the disinformation and regional
troubles, and these new solid bonds that saw the
light between Lebanon and Mexico will soon reach
the whole region of Latin America.

COMMUNIQUES
The
failure of humanity
18 January 2009 - N°72
by
NAJI FARAH
In
the Middle
East,
starting
from Palestine
to Lebanon
and Iraq,
innocents are
being
exploited
in the
name of
“a God.” Jewish,
Christians
and
Muslims
propagandists
forge
public
opinion by
leading
masses
using as
tool their
“God”,
distributing weapons
for economical ends.

traditions.
It
is about time that
Christians, from the
west to the east,
unite and send
the message for
peace and love, the
one of the single God
El, perpetuated by
Jesus Christ, as used
to do our Phoenicians
ancestors. A message
creating
a positive

INTERVIEWS
Nassim
Nicolas Taleb, next
laureate of the Pulitzer prize?
28
August 2007 - N°40
Since
its publication last
April, the latest
work of the Lebanese
Nassim Nicolas
Taleb, The Black
Swan, witnessed a
spectacular
worldwide success.
Appearing in the
category of «with
ideas» and
considered as a «non-vulgarized
essay with a
thousand references»,
this book on «the
impact of the great
improbability» and
incertitude comes at
the head of
best-sellers of the
New York Times, for
the thirteenth
consecutive week. It
is classified number
one of the Business
Week and selected
among the best books
for the year 2007 by
Amazon.com. The
philosophical
approach of the
topics with
humoristic
connotations has
yielded interest at
all levels:
journalistic,
academic,
philosophical,
scientific,
political, economic
and financial. The
Black Swan comes
down like an
enormous slab stone
provoking large
scale reverberations.
Shall it be
perceived in the
next Pulitzer prize?

| BIBLIOGRAPHY Who
wants to destroy
Lebanon
?
16 May 2007 - N°16
by
BÉATRICE PATRIE and
EMMANUEL ESPAÑOL One
hundred days after the
end of the war of
2006, the
assassination of young
minister Pierre
Gemayel plunged
Lebanon
again in the endless
spiral of terror.
Impotence, but not
resignation, strange
word in the Lebanese
vocabulary. Fall seven
times, rise eight
times. Everybody is
aware what the
Lebanese are capable
of. But in addition to
their known courage
for incessantly
building their
destroyed houses,
their broken lives,
how can we endow them
with the necessary
courage for getting
rid of the ordeals of
a revolved political
history, with its
feudal lords and
warlords? The children
of
Israel
can sleep on their two
ears, essentially
affirmed Ben Gourion,
when the tribe of
Israel
is no longer
surrounded by all the
tribes of the
Middle East
... It is against this
vision that
Lebanon
should nowadays be
constructed.
