>> FLASH >> THE ANTI-LEBANESE ALLIANCE IS THREATENING THE COUNTRY OF THE CEDARS - Friday 6 July 2007

Saturday July 7, National Taboulé Day

Mounts and marvels in Lebanon

by NAJI FARAH, editor-in-chief

Spain in mourning: the death of six soldiers, of which three are Columbians, of the Spanish contingent of UNIFIL in South Lebanon, on Sunday June 24, 2007, has caused great consternation in the Iberian Peninsula

Lebanon, exactly one year ago, was again transformed into a direct confrontation terrain between the Orient and the Occident, whose governments, true enemies of Lebanon, do not take into account the suffering of the Lebanese people, and they are eager to divide it. Through their politicians and media, they claim to be the defenders of the country of the Cedars, but in secret, their plans are totally different: even more destruction and death, this is their design for this small country in surface area which, despite the brilliance of its children overseas, cannot manage to impose itself on the international arena. Because Lebanon, in its democratic entity, tolerant and multicultural, not to mention its climate and wonderful sceneries, is the anti-thesis of Israel and other countries of the Arab land which, along with their American, European and Iranian allies, are coordinately active in infusing fire and rumors. The tourist season is once more lost, awaiting the advent of the new imminent war, being top story in all Lebanese media, but whose nature we still ignore: a military coup d’état, a Palestinian uprising, a Syrian intervention, a well-orchestrated attack against Hezbollah; suppositions are multiple and amplified by international will to provoke a new civil war.

On the terrain, the front of the Palestinian camp of Nahr El Bared in North Lebanon, engaging the Lebanese Army, is well established, after violent confrontations following the butchery of thirty Lebanese soldiers on May 20, by regional Islamists, who did not even have the courtesy of their Israeli predecessors, ten months ago in South Lebanon, to give a public excuse for justifying their deliberate aggression. With the elapse of every ten days, a bloody attack takes place, causing tension at the beginning of this Lebanese summer, such as the explosion of a car bomb on the cornice of the Beirut coast, killing MP Walid Eido on June 13, followed by another car bomb with the passage of a UNIFIL patrol in the locality of Khiam, killing six soldiers from the Spanish contingent on June 24. Therefore, friendly countries, do you really want to help Lebanon ? Well, very simple:  it is enough to equip the Lebanese Army, providing it with anti-air defense weapons and combat helicopters, as well as providing the Army with the means to extend its authority inside the country and along the country’s borders. No foreign army presence or army dependent of foreign powers shall be necessary or tolerated, and then we shall be able to taste our taboulé in peace, profiting from the mountains and marvels of Lebanon , without worrying about the future of our children. This is how this Saturday July 7 shall be celebrated, the National Taboulé Day, favorite of Lebanese gastronomy, with its games and competitions that shall be held from now on every first Saturday of July.
